PCCW Global, the international operating division of HKT, Hong Kong’s premier telecommunications service provider, and data center and cloud specialist TierPoint announced a collaboration to offer US-based enterprises the world’s first global software-defined interconnection platform using TierPoint’s infrastructure, with access to PCCW Global’s Console Connect.

Telia with its IoT solutions and 5G technology digitize sports in Sweden
New technological solutions create new possibilities for athletes to improve their personal sports technique, such as perfecting the rowing stroke or the take-off in a hurdles race. A sensor in a shoe that provides real-time feedback to the athlete requires a fast network that transmits data flows with minimal response time. To achieve this, Telia and the Swedish Olympic Academy have partnered to develop sensor solutions with new IoT platforms and 5G technology.
Sensor technology has been previously tested. Canoes were equipped with sensors that measure acceleration and slowing down and in sailing, sailors received real-time feedback to speed changes.
The new digital tools can provide individualized, more productive and fun training for more youths too. The Swedish Olympic Academy and Telia aims to go from test environment to everyday training, creating more opportunities for sports and health for more people, which will hopefully lead to more Olympic medals.
The Uruguayan company Antel and Tata Communications join efforts to offer services to mobile and IoT providers in South America, Central America, and the Caribbean
The South American IoT market is projected to reach $19.4 billion by 2023. This growth is fuelled by increasingly pervasive internet connectivity in the region, which is accelerating the use of triple-play services and smartphones amongst consumers and businesses.
Uruguayan telco Antel and Tata Communications have joined forces to serve mobile and IoT providers in South America, Central America, and the Caribbean. The partnership will act as the foundation for next-generation mobile and IoT services in sectors such as retail, utilities, construction, IT and banking.
Antel and Tata Communications will offer cloud-based mobile and IoT services using a business model that is designed to minimize total cost of ownership and time-to-market through a commercial risk sharing approach. The new mobility partnership combines Antel’s data center and Latin American market knowledge with the Tata Communications MOVE™ platform global network reach to enable businesses to quickly deploy new mobile and IoT services across the region.
Furthermore, in some countries, there are government efforts to make it easier and more cost-effective for MVNO start-ups to get off the ground, to expedite IoT deployments, and to developing digital networks and smart cities.
Telefónica shows the first network that integrates fixed, mobile and “Edge Computing” technology
Mobile World Congress of Barcelona (MWC) – Telefónica presented the first prototype of an open network (Open Access), an architecture that allows the convergence of mobile phones, landlines, and Edge Computing. Also, it presented the addition of new services and business areas for the company.
The prototype shows what the network’s philosophy is in relation to the future of 5G networks. In other words, it intends to achieve the convergence of all current systems into one that is faster and easier to manage, while allowing new services to be developed.
